As part of the SFB 1638, we are delighted to invite you to a special screening of the acclaimed documentary “Picture a Scientist” at the cinema Kamera, Brückenstraße 26, on October 8, 2025, at 7 pm.
Released in 2020, “Picture a Scientist” is a powerful and thought-provoking film that takes us behind the scenes of academic life to reveal many of the systemic barriers women in science face. Through the stories of pioneering female researchers, the film shows not only the deeply personal impact these challenges have, but also how these structural issues shape and limit science as a whole.
The challenges portrayed remain far from resolved. In fact, given current worldwide political shifts, there is a real concern that progress toward equity and inclusion in STEM may stall or even reverse. This makes the conversations the film inspires not only timely, but urgently necessary and relevant for all.
What to expect?
The evening will begin with welcome drinks, followed by a short introduction by Prof. Dr. Cristina Paulino (BZH, Heidelberg University) and Dr. Alba Diz-Muñoz (group leader at EMBL). After the movie, we invite you to stay for an open discussion round where we can reflect together on the challenges highlighted.
We warmly encourage you to join us for this special evening. Please share the invitation.
