The CRC1638 comprises groups at five different institutions and generates, exchanges and disseminates a broad spectrum of research data from various sources including light microscopy, cryo-electron microscopy, cryo-electron tomography, x-ray crystallography, atomic force microscopy, lipidomics, proteomics and molecular dynamics simulations. Project INF with its data officer Dr. Neele Drobnitzky supports researchers in the CRC groups in implementing project-specific data management in such a complex environment with diverse types of scientific data. Transforming research results into FAIR data is a fundamental part of this process. INF supports the introduction and use of electronic lab notebooks with a special focus on eLabFTW. Closely related to ELNs are the systematic use of rich metadata and domain-specific ontologies. A network of data stewards has been established within the CRC and is guided by INF. Research data management plans are continuously refined. They are essential due to their positive impact on knowledge management and data quality. CRC groups are supported by INF in exchanging and archiving of large datasets. The INF project operates in close collaboration with the Heidelberg University Computing Center (URZ) and the Research Data Unit (RDU).
